St. Albert Minor Hockey Association and the Raiders Hockey Committee recently learned that the John Reid Memorial Tournament (JRMT) organizing committee will be stepping down. Trudy Kueber and the members of the JRMT Committee have run the tournament for almost 15 years and have done a tremendous job hosting this tournament in our community.
The JRMT has a rich history in our community and has been a part of our program for 44 years. John Reid was an incredible contributor to our hockey community, and we want to ensure this tournament continues in his name. Through the effort of the previous committee, they have created a tournament that is recognized across North America as an elite tournament. It is our commitment to achieve this same standard of success.
We apologize for any confusion the alignment of the JRMT, with Hockey Alberta policy has caused. SAMHA's goal is to ensure this tournament remains a signature event in the community, and we are committed to collaborating with all stakeholders to support the ongoing legacy of this tournament.
Looking forward, we are pleased to announce that Brent Kondro has been named the Tournament Director of the John Reid Memorial Tournament. Over the next month, Brent will work with the Reid family to build a tournament organizing committee. We are excited to welcome the same top-calibre teams, families, and player scouts to Servus Credit Union Place in 2023.
